Councillor Julian Hughes, Vice Chairman
‘I’ve been fortunate to call Gwennap Parish home for just over ten years, and in that time I’ve seen firsthand both its remarkable scale and the pace of change it has experienced. Although my work has taken me across the UK and Europe, this is where my wife, daughter, and I chose to settle. Gwennap is a vibrant, living community — a place where people live, work, and enjoy the many miles of beautiful outdoor spaces that surround us. With its rich industrial history and strong sense of heritage, it’s a truly special place that I believe deserves thoughtful care and protection.
As an active member of the Parish Council, I’m passionate about listening to and representing those who may not always feel heard. I see my role as a way to help share ideas, raise concerns fairly, and work together to make positive, steady progress for the whole community.’

Councillor Andrea Freeman
‘I was born and bred in Surrey where I had various careers including Actuary, Primary School teacher and owned a Wedding cake company.
When we moved to Gwennap in 2019 I was keen to become part of the local community and to learn more about the place we now call home. I became a Parish Councillor in 2020.
Along with my husband Adam, I run a local business – The Cornish Place – where we welcome tourists but are committed to educating them about where they are holidaying and encouraging them to tread lightly and support local as much as possible. We are now on our journey to becoming a registered B Corp so are proud to put Planet and People on an equal footing with Profit.
I am passionate about the environment so am keen to see Gwennap remain a beautiful rural parish, whilst being keen to improve housing and community facilities for all generations of residents. I have also enjoyed becoming the Councillor responsible for our relationship with Cusgarne Primary School. ‘

Councillor Veryan Pascoe-Edward
‘ I live in the parish with my family and am the seventh generation of my family to live on our farm here, which gives me a strong connection to the area.
I am interested in supporting a balanced and sustainable local community, with a focus on preserving the character of the parish while considering the needs of families and shared spaces. Outside of this, I love cooking, gardening, and creative projects.’
